Project on the history of the Kyiv pogrom of October 1919
Briefly about the pogrom

According to various estimates, the pogrom in Kyiv took place between October 1 and October 8, 1919, according to the old style (October 14-21 according to the new style). This was during the period when Kyiv was under the control of the Armed Forces of Southern Russia, or the Volunteer Army.
According to the recollections of contemporaries, the pogrom reached its peak during the “three days of freedom” granted to the soldiers of the Volunteer Army. They began on the evening of October 2.
CAUSE? REASON
During this time, there were various incidents of looting of Jewish homes and shops, rape, injury and mutilation, and even murder of Kyiv Jews. In short, everything that is characteristic of a pogrom. In addition to the residents of Kyiv themselves, many refugees also suffered from the actions of the pogromists — those who had already experienced anti-Jewish violence in their own communities or had fled from it to Kyiv.
