History of the pogrom
On October 3 (old style), at around 4 p.m., two armored vehicles drove up to the house, and one of them began firing machine guns at the house. After that, the soldiers in the armored vehicles began breaking down the gate. The janitor opened the gate for them. Shouting and swearing, the soldiers jumped on the neighbor, a Christian named Lozovoy, who saved us with his behavior, and demanded to know who had fired the shots. Then Lozovoy, pushed up against the wall, asked them to search the apartments to make sure there were no machine guns there.
In the basement, the soldiers robbed those who were there of 15,000 rubles. They beat up the owner of the merchant hotel, Berdichevsky. They went through the apartments, searching and looting. They kept demanding 100,000 rubles, and the residents asked for at least a day's delay, promising to give them 50,000, to which the bandits agreed. However, they did not show up the next day.
